Digital Innovators Summit 2025

Mathe's research interest lies in the area of Information and Communication Technologies for Development, also known as "ICT4D". This field in essence deals with the questions of how ICTs (i.e. digital technologies) may be used "for good" to advance human development.

She has operated within the cultural space as co-director and co-founder of Ba Re E Ne Re Literally Arts, co-convenor of The Pan-African arts research collective Another Roadmap Africa Cluster (ARAC), a 2016-2017 Humphrey Fellow, 2024 Museumslab Fellow and as one half of ART.1.ST consultancy, which leads the Lesotho chapter of Chimére Communities.

Dr. Laibuta recently completed his PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he focused on Privacy and Data Protection in Kenya. His extensive expertise includes policy development, governance, rule of law, constitutionalism, legislative drafting, digital rights, internet and technology law, privacy, and data protection. He also imparts his knowledge as a lecturer in Legal Writing and Legislative Drafting at the Kenya School of Law.

He has served as an adjudicator at the UNDP STEAM conference and as a panelist at the Sebabatso Youth Empowerment Initiative. Beyond his academic and professional roles, he is an entrepreneur and the founder of Newles Technologies, an IT consultancy that provides bespoke IT solutions.
